AOB 4 - Evaluation

Fit for purpose
The photo's that I took, i think, suit their fitness for purpose well. The pictures were to be taken for a magazine to show off the guitar. The images I have taken really bring out the features and colours of the guitar. Magazine photos show off normally show off the product as it is either reviewing it or advertising it.

Quality of shots
I quality of the images as a whole I don't think were bad.
I think that once the images were edited, they were much, much better than the ones that were not.
Adjusting the colours, brightness and contrast and levels really make the images a lot better and much more professional by making the colours brighter and stand out more as well as making the image sharper. I think that on some of the pictures I took, that green background reflected too much on to the guitar. Also the pictures that had a black background also included background things such as lights, and therefore needed to be edited out. There were some shots though that I think were good enough to not need editing due to the lighting being controlled and making sure the background was clear.

Effectiveness to plan for a photo shoot
I stuck to the plan i made for the photo shoot. I have found out that pictures with the person with the guitar would probably be better for the magazine.

Effectiveness of own management of photographic process
I think I was able to set up the equipment quickly and efficiently, I also experimented with different camera angles and lighting arrangements.

Advertising Photography

Advertising photographers would work either as a pid employee or freelance.

For the magazine i took my pictures for the photographers are likely to be paid employees who would work in a group to get the best photos.

The first thing that happens it the photographers get a booking from a client, next they inspect the space where the photo shoot is to take place and has it set up to what they need.

For example with the guitar, different lighting techniques will be set up and different camera angels experimented with. Things such as time of day will effect the lighting arrangements and as well as where the photo shoot will take place eg. in the studio or outside. Different props will be used, eg. with my guitar, guitar strap, and guitar picks were also needed. Photographers may also take a selection of shots depending on the product, such as stills or action shots, or both, like I did for my guitar.

The photographer and advertising agent will need to know exactly the type of pictures the client needs. If the photos taken are not what the client wanted a re-shoot will have to be done. Advertising photographers will only get paid for the images that are used, so doing exactly what the client needs is really important.

AOB4 - Presentation

Here are the 10 images that I have taken that I have decided to use.

5 Un-edited:
5 Edited:

Black and white, with levels changed and fake light added.

Here I edited the brush strokes and added and effect that made the images in to shades of the two colours eg. black and red.

Here, I have blackened out the background and really brought out the colours using the colour balance and brightness and contrast.

Make selection using the markee tool, then select inverse, and desaturate the background.
The guitar is in the center of the frame.

The guitar is central to the picture. I have edited the
brightness and contrast dramatically and have taken out the
background. I have also changed the colours to bring out
the red and gold.

AOB1 - Plan a photoshoot

For my planned photo shoot I am going to take pictures of a guitar for use in a magazine article. Photo's will include shots of the full guitar at different angles as well as close ups on selected parts. There will also be pictures of the guitar on its own or with a model modeling it. The pictures would either be taken with either a green or black background which would be easy to edit if needed. Close ups of the guitar will be from different angles showing up or down the guitar. There will also be a small range of photo types eg. in a different location.
For the photo shoot I will need to book the studio, and also hire/borrow camera's. There will be different lighting arrangements using up to 3 lights. I will also need the guitar I am going to photograph along with a modal to model it.
Pictures may need simple editing such as just adjusting the levels or the brightness and contrast. Other pictures will have more complex editing done, such as black and white (desaturated), adding objects in or out eg. lights, or effects like sketch and brush stokes.
For the photo shoot I will need lights, camera, back drops, guitar and model.
For health and safety, we will need to take care when moving and moving around the equipment, the. The lights will be hot and there will also be wires lying around, so care is to be taken. All work will need to be backed up as well.
Legal and ethical requirements will mean that pictures can not offend anyone or be sexist or racist.
A simple plan would be to arrive, set up all equipment, take plenty of photo's, upload pictures, edit ones that need it.
A typical budget would be:
Studio Rental; £135 per day
Nikon Camera Hire; £45 per day
Camera Lens; 50mm F1.4 G AF-S; £30
;28mm F2.8 D AF0; £28
Models; £225 per day (+expenses)
Make Up Artists; £175 (+expenses)
Props; budget depends on props used.
